Cover Story: The world faces an obesity crisis
Article Content: Food shortages have been a common problem for thousands of years. Today, however, obesity has become a global burden. As we all know, obesity has led to a health crisis in the United States as a whole. If it continues to develop according to the current trend, it will soon surpass smoking and become the most deadly factor in the early death of Americans, declining quality of life, and the surge in health costs. According to statistics from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one-third of American adults are obese and another one-third are overweight, and Americans are becoming obese every year.
The American Medical Association magazine study found that the deaths of 160,000 Americans each year are related to obesity. Obesity can also lead to loss of productivity and increased medical costs. Although researchers understand the principles of obesity in terms of metabolism, genes, and neurology, they have not found a cure for this health crisis.
The simplest and most common solution to weight loss is to absorb fewer calories. But if things are really that simple, it will not become the number one health problem in the United States. In today's world, the emergence of a large number of cheap, high-energy foods has made weight loss a major challenge.
