FirstFuel: Analyzing Power Company Energy Consumption from Weather Data

FirstFuel Software is a startup software company whose analysis software can track and analyze energy consumption in commercial buildings. The company recently announced the completion of a $2.4 million Series A round of financing, with the investor being Battery Ventures.

The biggest advantage of FirstFuel Software is that its energy consumption tracking is completely independent of any special energy tracking devices (such as smart meters and plugs only). The software can build a report on energy consumption in buildings based on data obtained from power companies combined with weather data near buildings.

A FirstFuel Software spokesperson said: The software first obtains electricity data from the power company for a year, and then combines weather data to create a report document describing the use of energy in buildings. After a period of specific monitoring, the software will conduct an in-depth analysis of the energy consumption of the entire building, showing the energy consumption status of the entire power terminal, such as lighting, heating, cooling, outlet load, and data center consumption. Finally, give a report on energy efficiency recommendations.

These energy-saving suggestions may include refurbishing the building to add more insulation, or using more efficient lighting systems. Another advantage of FirstFuel Software is that this energy consumption analysis is completed without any on-site manual intervention. The entire process can be easily completed by remote manipulation.

Obviously, FirstFuel Software's service is quick and easy, but it is not detailed enough. As an energy-consulting consulting agency, its competitive advantage is insufficient. In fact, the company's main strategy is to authorize power companies to try to ease the pressure on the power grid. For example, through the re-decoration of commercial buildings, the use of more heat-insulating windows or the addition of an insulation layer to reduce the energy consumption caused by air conditioning during peak usage.
