Variety Selection
Select a late-maturing pepper variety that exhibits strong growth potential, high heat tolerance in the early stages, good resistance to temperature fluctuations, strong virus resistance, excellent adaptability, rapid fruit setting, concentrated harvest, shiny fruits, thick flesh, dark green color, and a large horn shape.
Sowing at the Right Time
In mid-July to early August, plant approximately 100 grams of Daejeon pepper seeds. Sow the seeds into nutrient pots, placing 2-3 seeds per pot, and cover them with a thin layer of nutrient soil after sowing.
Shade Seedling
It is best to use small arch sheds and shade nets for seedling protection. Alternatively, straw or bamboo curtains can be used to create additional shade. On rainy days, cover the shed with plastic film to protect the seedlings from heavy rain. After the rain, remove the cover and provide shade during the hottest part of the day.
Seedbed Management
Choose a plot that has not been planted in the previous season for the seedbed. After preparing the bed, kill pests by spraying or using soil treatment, then cover the bed with a plastic sheet for 2-3 days to eliminate underground pests. After 3 days, uncover the film and proceed with sowing. After sowing, apply Greenheng No. 1 diluted 300 times over the seedbed. When the seedlings have 2-3 true leaves, spray Greenheng No. 2 diluted 600-800 times to control disease outbreaks. For insect pests, use 25% fast killing solution diluted 500-2000 times. The seedbed should maintain proper moisture levels—neither too dry nor too wet. When the two true leaves appear, transplant the seedlings, keeping only one strong seedling per pot and watering with diluted human or animal manure.
Timely Transplanting
When the pepper seedlings are about 30-35 days old, transplant them between mid-August and early September. It is best to transplant on a sunny day after 4 PM or on cloudy days before rain. Plant around 4200-4500 plants per mu. Apply fertilizer to the seedbed and treat it with medicine to prevent root rot and blight. Use Greenhang Root Station No. 1 diluted 3000 times to water the roots during transplanting for effective results.
Applying Enough Fertilizer to the Field
The growth period and short-term yield of the anti-season pepper are brief, with the main yield coming from flowers and fruits in October. Therefore, applying base fertilizer is essential. Apply 3000 kg of high-quality farmyard manure per acre, 2500 kg of soil miscellaneous fertilizer, 50 kg of compound fertilizer, 150 kg of cooked cake fat, 100 kg of ammonium bicarbonate, and 1 kg of boron fertilizer.
Daejeon Management
5-6 days after planting, apply once coherent livestock manure mushi 1000 kg or 5 kg of urea. 15 days after transplanting, during the flowering and fruit-setting phase, it's critical to apply 10 kg of urea, 50 kg of cake fertilizer, or 30 kg of compound fertilizer, and spray 0.3% potassium dihydrogen phosphate every 10 days. Control plant height by spraying 5 g of paclobutrazol with 15 kg of water. Keep the flowers moist during this period. High temperatures may cause flower drop, so use pepper spiritual fountains, 6-8 grams of 60-80 kg of water for spraying to promote fruit set. Avoid excessive liquid on leaves and stems, as it can lead to root and stem rot. Use Greenhang No. 1 diluted 3000 times for irrigation, which shows good control effects. For diseases like anthracnose, spray Greenhang No. 2 diluted 600-800 times. For viral infections, use virus A or K 600 times. For tobacco budworm and aphids, use Kuaishaling 100 or 200 fenpropathrin for dual prevention. At the end of October, prune the top of branches to promote faster fruiting and enlargement. By November, when temperatures begin to drop, install mid scaffolding. If night temperatures fall below 15°C, cover with insulation films. Below 8°C, use small greenhouse films or coverings to protect against frost. Seal the sides of the shed and ventilate during sunny afternoons. Maintain daytime temperatures between 20-25°C and nighttime temperatures between 8-10°C. From November onward, the greenhouse mainly focuses on drying.
Pepper General Season is available on the market in mid-October, with sales starting as early as October 1st. As long as you manage the greenhouse properly, focusing on insulation, disease prevention, and preservation, you can expect to harvest 1000-1500 kg per mu before and after the New Year’s Day.
