The quality of tomato seeds depends mainly on seed fullness, germination rate, germination potential and seed purity.
(1) Plumpness is the fullness of the seed. It is usually expressed in thousands of grains, that is, the mass (grams) of 1000 seeds. The greater the 1000-grain weight, the more full the seeds. Generally, the average 1000-grain weight of tomato seeds is about 3.1 grams.
(2) Germination rate refers to the percentage of germinable seeds in the sample seeds. The germination rate of tomato seeds is required to reach 90% or more.
(3) Germination potential refers to the percentage of germinated seeds in the specified number of days for the tested seeds. It is a quantitative indicator of seed germination speed, uniformity and germination concentration. The germination potential of tomato seeds was determined to be 5 days.
(4) Seed purity Refers to the number of plants that meet the characteristics of this variety as a percentage of the total number of plants identified. The purity of tomato seeds is required to be above 95%. Hybrids are classified into primary and secondary species. The purity of the first-class seed is not less than 98.0%, and the purity of the second-stage seed is not less than 95.0%.
