The introduction of electronic fingerprint locks has brought a major transformation to the hardware lock industry. With the advancement of intelligent security technology and the widespread use of chips, electronic fingerprint locks have seen rapid development. Major brands like Huitailong, Bailemen, Mingmen, and Sakura have already launched smart electronic fingerprint locks. Puxin Hardware is also investing heavily in digital and intelligent lock products, even setting up dedicated production workshops. They believe that smart electronic fingerprint locks could become the last "blue ocean" in the lock industry, offering huge market potential, higher profit margins, and significant after-sales revenue—making it a worthwhile investment for lock companies.
To survive in the competitive market, companies must develop products on two fronts: high-value-added products that generate greater profits, and mass-market products that attract consumer attention and enhance brand visibility. For lock companies, ball locks can serve as the volume-driven product, while mortise and electronic locks offer higher profitability.
Both the lock and door industries emphasize personalization. Although the lock industry was developed earlier, the door industry has grown rapidly over the past decade, surpassing the scale of the lock industry. Today, the door industry acts as a barometer for the lock industry. New door designs often prompt lock manufacturers to create matching locks. Many European-style locks on the market are designed based on the aesthetics of high-end European doors.
Currently, in the relationship between door and lock companies, door manufacturers hold a dominant position. Most lock companies actively seek partnerships with door factories, but few door factories take the initiative to collaborate. Door customization leads to lock customization. Since building door dimensions vary, the door and window industry remains largely customized. This trend extends to the hardware lock industry. With household products like doors, windows, furniture, wardrobes, and cabinets being customizable, it's entirely possible that locks will follow suit. The trend of bundled sales of doors and locks is becoming more prominent, with consumers increasingly preferring pre-installed locks.
In the future, lock customization may occur in two ways: one, locks become supporting workshops for door companies; two, design companies place orders, then coordinate both door and lock manufacturers to produce according to the order, with the design company as the brand owner. Some door companies have already started experimenting with this model. As the lock industry reaches its peak, smaller micro-lock enterprises may be eliminated. Those that survive the challenges will have stronger competitiveness and better capabilities for customized production.
