Home > Bearing Knowledge > Bearing Discrimination
Bearing discrimination is a critical process to determine whether a bearing can still be used or needs to be replaced. Several factors should be considered, including the extent of damage, mechanical performance, importance in the system, working conditions, and the time until the next scheduled inspection. If any of the following issues are present, the bearing should no longer be used and must be replaced with a new one:
1. Cracks or gaps in the outer ring, rolling elements, or cage.
2. Significant damage or scoring on the raceway, ribs, or rolling elements.
3. Severe wear on the cage or loose rivets.
4. Rust or surface damage on the raceway or rolling elements.
5. Deep dents, scratches, or marks on the raceway or rolling elements.
6. Obvious signs of creep on the inner or outer diameter surfaces.
7. Noticeable color changes due to overheating.
8. Damaged seals or dust covers in grease-sealed bearings.
Regular inspections and proper maintenance are essential to ensure the reliability and longevity of bearings. It's also important to consider the operating environment and load conditions when making a decision about replacement.
If you're unsure about the condition of a bearing, it's always best to consult with a professional or refer to manufacturer guidelines.
